The Hotel

Finca el Cerrillo is a restored 200 year old farmhouse situated high in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara region of southern Spain. It was a working olive mill until the mid 1960's and has been carefully restored to preserve the charm and character of old Andalucia whilst providing modern comforts. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal - we aim to make you feel as if you are staying with friends. Many guests return year after year and have become good friends!

Finca el Cerrillo sits in peaceful country side only a 5 minute drive from the traditional mountain village of Canillas de Albaida. Canillas is a typical Moorish 'white' village 600 metres above sea level with a backdrop of mountains and the Mediterranean sea only 30 minutes drive away. Looking north from the Finca there are spectacular views of Mount Maroma (2080m) and the nearby Natural Park.

The Finca is peaceful but not remote, there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the local villages (Canillas is just 5 minutes away by car) with many more in nearby Competa.

We have 12, individually styled, spacious rooms and plenty of places to relax and enjoy the ambience. Outside, the terraced gardens with carob and palm trees surround both sunny and shaded patios. The swimming pool and deck areas have stunning views providing a pleasant place to swim or somewhere to relax on a comfortable lounger with a glass of wine or cold beer from the Honesty bar.

The hotel grounds offer a number of different patios and terraces. These include a walled patio and a shady terrace under a huge old carob tree with a Moorish day bed for lounging outdoors, Alhambra style!

Finca food is freshly prepared and delicious with most of our produce bought locally from our two nearest villages. On warm evenings dinner is served on the candlelit terrace. In the winter we serve dinner in the lounge by a blazing log fire.

The Finca makes a great base for activities such as Walking, Painting and Writing but many more people come to just enjoy the peace of the pool and gardens and to work their way through our well stocked library!

Library

Our library is well stocked with many of the latest novels, information about the local area and a range of maps, Guide books and reference books. There is also a PC with broad band internet access (free wi-fi access throughout most of the Hotel if you have your own lap top).

Honesty Bar

The honesty bar allows you to access alcoholic or soft drinks 24 hours a day. There are fridges with beers, wines, soft drinks and ice creams. Spirits, liqueurs and mixers are all available. All you have to do is help yourself, write down what you've had and we will add it to your bill at the end of your stay.

The Mill Lounge

The Finca was a working olive mill until the mid 1960's. The beamed Mill Lounge still retains many charming features but now has comfortable sofas and an open log fire burning in the winter months.

The Pool and Mature Gardens

The Studio

The Studio can be used for a variety of activities such as Painting, Yoga and Writing. It is spacious (11m x 8m,) light and airy with air-conditioning to ensure a comfortable temperature year-round: it leads onto a courtyard patio that can be used as extra space for those who want to work outdoors.

There are work tables, portable easels, stools and drawing boards for participants to use and seating for up to 20 people.
